Ford Mustang Mach E Review

Ford's first electric car made its debut in 2021. A groundbreaking progression for a much-beloved car brand, this car is different in two ways from its traditional counterpart - apart from the obvious absence of a combustion engine. First, this electric car is quite pricey for a Ford, and you cannot find the Ford badge on it anywhere.

When you first think of a Mustang, you think 'muscle car'. You think sweeping muscular styling, a massive lumbering V8 engine, and your regular rear-wheel-drive layout. This car has remained the same for years, and the format has become familiar for Mustang lovers like the back of their hand.

An electric version of this car transforms it entirely. It's a large SUV and some dare not call it a Mustang. This is because it doesn't feel like a Mustang, nor does it have a drive similar to the original Mustang. The design of the car mimics the Mustang with its thrusting bonnet and light signatures, but for some, that is where the similarities end. Instead of two doors, this car is a four-door electric crossover. Furthermore, the car emphasizes performance and technology - it is not quite there yet with saving the trees. A radical revamp of Ford's classic Mustang, let's dive into the good and bad of this innovation.

As expected, different versions of the car have different prices:

The GT version of this car has a price tag of around £75,000.
The Plain Mach-E has a price tag of around £40,350.
The two dual-motor cars have different battery sizes. The smaller car has a battery of 254 bhp and is priced at £46,650, while the bigger battery size is 332bhp at £57,030.

The Ford Mustang Mach E has two versions, a 70.0 kWh battery or an extended range battery pack of 91.0 kWh. The battery pack fuels an electric motor that is placed on the rear or both axles. If the motor rests on both axles, it creates an all-wheel drive. The Mustang E also comes in sport GT and GT performance models in which the motors come together to create a horsepower of 480, and up to 634 pound-feet of torque. This combination is meant to get the car from 0 to 60 mph in a stunning 3.5 seconds.

The entry-level drive, however, delivers 0 to 62 miles per hour in 6.9 seconds. This is still quick by most standards. The less powerful models have ranges between 266 and 346 in terms of horsepower and the torque falls in the 317 to 428 pound-feet range. Going in, riders of the original mustang should keep their expectations low, as the Mach E is not as engaging as the traditional mustang. However, the operation of the car is quiet and the drive is super smooth and seamless, which tips the scales in the car's favour if you can set your expectations aside.

The Mustang Mach E's range is average when compared to the Tesla. On its own, it's decent. It has an EPA-estimated range of between 211 and 305 miles, and this too is dependent on the battery pack and type of motor.

Each model of the car has a fast-charging capability. It has a Ford mobile charger which adds around 30 miles of range per night when hooked to a 120-volt outlet. When hooked to 240-volt outlets, the car can build up 80% of the battery overnight. You can also have a Ford charge station installed if you're feeling fancy, and this can recharge the battery overnight.

The Mustang Mach E has a decent world economy. The standard model touches 230 miles when it's a rear-wheel drive and it goes up to 211 miles when it's equipped with an AWD. The extended ranges touch 300 miles in RWD and 270 miles in AWD.

Truthfully, the Ford goes much further on a single charge when compared to other electric vehicles on the market, with very few rivals such as EV's from Tesla matching the Mach E's range.

The battery of the car is located under the floor of the chassis, opening up space for maximum cargo and passenger space. The inside of the Mach E looks nothing like the regular Mustang. The car features a sleek streamlined dashboard, which hosts a control panel equipped with a digital gauge cluster and a large vertically mounted touchscreen.

Furthermore, the centre console has a floating flip-up armrest that can be used to store a purse, wallet, or whatever you please. The car is savvy, featuring options for soft ambient interior lighting, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a port for wireless charging, and a panoramic sunroof.

As a bonus feature, the front trunk has been made up of durable plastics which can be rinsed with water and dried, so you can store ice and liquids. In total, Mach E has 60 cubic feet of space when the back seats are folded. When they're unfolded, the space shrinks to 29 cubic feet.

The Mach E features Ford's SYNC infotainment system which utilizes machine learning to adhere and customize to each driver's experience. The system has 3 driver profiles and one for a guest. The software is run via the touchscreen, creating easy access and navigation. The car's stellar infotainment system features Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot, and a Bang & Olufsen audio system.

The Mustang Mach E comes with a wide range of driver assistance technology. It features several safety features like:

forward-collision warning and automated emergency braking
blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert
lane-departure warning and lane-keeping assist

The Mustang Mach E has an almost perfect safety rating. According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the car endured six crash tests and earned a top safety pick rating.
