The Kia ProCeed blends the practicality of an estate with the striking looks of a coupe. It comes equipped with plenty of tech and has enough space to meet the needs of family. There’s plenty to admire about the ProCeed but it comes at a cost that’s higher than a conventional hatchback.
This sleek five-door vehicle is the sportiest and most stylish member of the Kia line-up that includes the Ceed hatchback and Ceed sportswagon estate. It’s stand-out look is achieved with a length that exceeds the sportswagon by 5mm and a roofline that’s 43mm lower. The ProCeed also sits 5mm lower which gives it a sportier vibe. The only other brand that does anything like this is Mercedes with it’s a-Class CLA Shooting Brake, but the ProCeed is a lot more affordable.

The Kia ProCeed – your questions answered
We know that you need the right information before you commit to leasing or buying a Kia ProCeed. So, we’ve listed the most asked questions about the ProCeed below and provided the answers.
Is Kia ProCeed reliable?
The new ProCeed is a recent addition to the Kia line-up and it’s too new to properly judge its overall reliability. However, the seven-year warranty is reassuring. The Kia brand also comes with a good reliability record. The manufacturer finished ninth out of 30 manufacturers in the 2021 What Car? Reliability Survey. In addition, based on the reliability of the Kia Ceed, the platform is good and should make the ProCeed a reliable vehicle.
Does ProCeed have an electric or hybrid model?
No, the ProCeed is only available as a petrol vehicle. You do have Kia options if you prefer electric though, take a look at the Kia Niro. You can also consider the hybrid options in the Kia Sportage range.
Are there any problems with the Kia ProCeed?
There have been some reports of engine misfires. However, so far, the Kia ProCeed hasn’t shown any major issues.
Does the Kia ProCeed have adaptive cruise control?
Adaptive cruise control is available in the GT Line S model. Opt for this upgrade on the standard trim and you also get a large opening sunroof, a power tailgate, and a self parking system.
Is the Kia ProCeed good on fuel?
The ProCeed has a 1.5 T-GDi ISG (158 BHP) engine. The GT-Line trim has a 6 speed manual gearbox while the ProCeed GT-Line S trim has a 7 speed auto dual-clutch transmission. Overall, this leads to an average fuel efficiency for the ProCeed of 48.7mpg, (range 46-49mpg).
Kia ProCeed design, technology and running costs
Read our review of the performance and driving experience associated with the Kia ProCeed. You’ll get the advice and insights you need to make an informed buying or leasing decision.
Performance and driving experience
You only have one choice of engine with the Kia ProCeed, a turbocharged 1.5-litre petrol engine with 158bhp. It comes with a six-speed manual gearbox in the GT-Line trim and a 7 speed auto dual-clutch transmission in the GT-Line S trim.
The limited choice of engine doesn’t have an adverse effect on the driving performance of the ProCeed. In fact, it’s a fun and easy drive. In town, the compact nature of the vehicle makes it simple to negotiate traffic. On the motorway, the ProCeed is solid, although it can be a firm ride over a long journey rather than a totally comfortable one. When the roads are winding, changing direction is no problem.
On the flip side, you’ll notice a fair amount of tyre noise as you drive, and the sloping roof and small back window make the rear view difficult. Although, you do get door mirrors, rear parking sensors, and a reversing camera to help with this.
Running costs
Purchase costs for the Kia ProCeed fall within the affordable range as you can see from the table below.
Trim
Engine
Cost
ProCeed GT-Line
1.5-litre petrol with 158bhp
£26,665
ProCeed GT-Line S
1.5-litre petrol with 158bhp
£32,270
You also have affordable lease options available, for vehicles such as the Kia ProCeed Shooting Brake 1.5T GDi ISG GT-Line S 5dr DCT if you decide against purchase. In addition to upfront and ongoing purchase or lease costs, there are running costs to consider. We’ve provided the fuel efficiency and emissions data below, to give you a better understanding in this area.
Economy
CO2 emissions
Petrol
46-49 mpg
187g/km – 353.5 g/km
The highest CO2 emissions are associated with the GT-Line S trim.
Moving on to the cost of maintaining a Kia ProCeed, the average cost of a full service is £200. The vehicle comes with a seven-year, 100,000-mile warranty as standard and you can purchase a Kia service plan with costs dependent on the details of your vehicle.
The last major running cost you need to consider is insurance for your Kia ProCeed. The vehicle falls within the 12-23 insurance groups depending on trim.
Interior and tech
The interior isn’t the most exciting you’ll find in this type of vehicle, but it’s perfectly acceptable. The colour scheme is mostly black and grey with some silver trim on the dashboard and doors. These colours combined with the slim windows can make the interior a little dark. It definitely has a sporty feel to suit the brand’s intentions though.
The ProCeed’s 10.25” infotainment touchscreen responds quickly when you use it, although the graphics aren’t as clean as in some vehicles. You have the option to connect to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto if you prefer to override the car’s “native” system.
Other standard features of the Kia ProCeed include:
Dual zone climate control
Heated seats in the front
DAB radio
USB ports
Choose the GT-Line S trim and you get extras such as:
Black leather with suede upholstery on the seats
Smart key with an engine start/stop button
Smart cruise control with stop and go functionality
Space and comfort
There’s more than enough space in the front seats of the ProCeed. You’ll find it’s easy to get comfortable as there’s plenty of leg, head, and shoulder room. Storage in the front of the vehicle is pretty good too. The door bins are spacious, there’s room under the armrest, and you get the use of two cupholders as well as slots for random items you might want to stash away as you drive.
In the back, there’s less space due to the sloping roofline. Headroom isn’t too bad for anyone who is under six feet tall, but the legroom is compromised. In truth, fitting in three adults is a squeeze but kids in the back aren’t a problem. This is the same deal as most cars that are a similar size to a ProCeed and it isn’t a major issue.
The ProCeed’s boot space isn’t bad at 594 litres. Although, you’ll notice that it includes storage areas under the boot floor. So, if you have any items larger than a couple of big suitcases or a pushchair, you may need to fold the seats down and get the extra space this delivers.
Safety features and reliability
You get an array of safety features as standard with the Kia ProCeed. These features include:
Lane keeping assistance
Forward collision avoidance
Driver attention warning
Take a step up to the GT-Line S and you get additional safety features such as:
Blind spot warning
Rear cross traffic alert
Lane following assist
In addition, you’ll find the ProCeed comes with stability and traction control as well as six airbags.
Kia ProCeed pros and cons
To understand whether you want to lease or buy the Kia ProCeed, you need an honest take on the positive and less positive aspects of the vehicle. So, we’ve provided our opinion on the pros and cons of the Kia Proceed below.
Pros
Cons
Well equipped with tech
Rear space could be an issue
Stylish appearance
Limited trim choice
Handles well in various road conditions
Rear visibility could be better
Safety tech is good
More expensive than the Kia Ceed
The verdict
The Kia ProCeed isn’t as sporty performance wise as the manufacturer suggests but it’s certainly a more stylish and streamlined alternative to the Ceed sportswagon. This style means prioritising the look over practicality, but you don’t lose much space as a result. It’s also worth mentioning that the accompanying price tag isn’t too high, and the warranty is good.
The interior look isn’t as special as the exterior but there’s plenty of tech, especially from a safety point of view. The infotainment system responds well and if the graphics aren’t to your liking, you can hook up to your Apple or Android device instead.
You’ll be happy with the drive you get from the ProCeed. It may not be stand out but it’s good for a family ride and comfortable enough. Overall, this is an interesting car that gives you a good look combined with the tech and driving experience you need from an affordable ride.
